Gracefield is a Canadian city in Quebec, capital of the regional county municipality of La Vallée-de-la-Gatineau, in the Outaouais region. The 2021 census counted 2,376 inhabitants.
History:
The first settler to establish himself in Gracefield was Augustin Éthier, originally from Île Jésus, in 1840. It was on his land that the settlers built the first chapel in 1841, which also served as a school during the week.
In 1845, Gracefield had 20 families and a small village core was formed, around which new families would later be added who would settle on the east shore of the Gatineau, in what would become Northfield, then on the outskirts of the village in Wright Township.
Since the beginning of colonization, the populations of the three former municipalities have lived in close relationship, always sharing multiple services and infrastructures. The new city of Gracefield was officially created in 2002, following the amalgamation of three municipalities: Gracefield, Northfield and Wright.
